Forum Spammers

Postby unhyp » Fri May 29, 2009 9:37 am

Not to suggest something that might give Lady Red undue headache above and beyond what she already volunteers for this forum, but perhaps we can beef up the registration process so as to better screen out the recent deluge of spammers?
We seem to have gotten rid of the bots- but what about these seemingly real people with nothing better to do than spam us with ridiculous junk?

Is it possible to include some questions in the username registration process that are smith-specific? Give them a lot of options so that it will be relatively easy for real smithies to get the correct answer but more difficult for robo-humans to continue attempting the registration process when they get something wrong.

Eg:
Which of the following is a smith house?:

Edwards
Bush
Adelphi
Smith
Brown
Comstock
Greene
Sophia
Canner
Troy

What is the name of Smith's President?:

Jane Comanci
Julie Riverside
Amory Reginald
Claire Baldwin
Judy B. Ringwood
Carol Christ
Rudy Rabanowitz

Which of the following is not an original seven-sisters school?:

Vassar
Wellesley
Smith
Pembroke
Mount Holyoke
Radcliffe
Barnard
Bryn Mawr

Which is NOT a Smith Event?:

Convocation
Illumination Night
Commencement
Rally Day
Mountain Day
River Day
Winter Weekend
Spring Weekend
Friday Tea
Ivy Day

What is the Smith Mascot?:

Bears
Pioneers
Bulldogs
Crimsons
Blue Devils
Red Devils
Muskrats
Rangers

I had plans to do so, but have been overwhelmed with other stuff. I will try to do that this weekend. It's annoying the registration process for these forums is so easy.

ok, that's cool, except make sure real smithies would really know the answers to the questions. Even just 5 years out of school, I can't remember all the houses, and I KNOW that the mascot topic has been debated, changed, etc., over the course of the school's history. If less recent alum stumbles across us, we want to make it easy for them to join, right?
